Police arrested the president of the District of Sindh Taraqi Pasand (STP) of the party, Syed Jalal Shah, in a case related to an attack against the convoy of State Minister for Religious Affairs Kheel Das Kohistani.
The case was presented after the protesters threw stones in the minister of the minister in Thatta a day before.
The FIR also named several other STP activists, including Haider Shoro, Hakeem Brohi and Javed Janori, in relation to the incident.
The convoy met a demonstration held by nationalist groups that protested against channels in dispute. As the minister’s convoy approached, the protesters stirred, throwing eggs and tomatoes into the vehicle and singing slogans.
However, the convoy managed to pass without more escalation.
The protest was part of a broader campaign of nationalist groups that oppose the developments of fun and water infrastructure that claim that they threaten local agriculture and move to the communities.
Human rights activists and local political groups have expressed concern about the use of force during Shah’s arrest, asking for an impartial investigation in both the attack and in subsequent police actions.
“The attacks against public officials are unacceptable,” said Tarar, urging the government of Sindh to carry out an exhaustive and transparent investigation and to take those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Sindh’s prime minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also realized the attack and issued a strong conviction.
In a statement, he said: “No one has the right to take the law in their own hands.” He instructed Hyderabad DIG to immediately arrest those involved and submit a complete report on the incident.
