Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif established on Tuesday a deadline of 2028 for the expansion of the Pakistan rail network to Reko DIQ strategic and aimed at the formation of a ministerial committee to present recommendations on the financing requirements in this regard.
Shehbaz presided over a meeting on the railway update and linking Reko diq with the rail network. He directed the interested authorities to link Reko DIQ with the Railways Network for 2028 to meet the requirements of future transport and cargo services.
The Prime Minister also ordered that he form an interministerial committee to take care of financing issues for the improvement and development of Pakistan railroads and present recommendations regarding the financing required for the extension of the network to Reko Diq.
During the meeting, the prime minister was informed about the improvement of the main line (ML) -1 and ML -3 and the general development of the Pakistan railroads. The prime minister said that the Pakistan railroads served as a backbone for the economy and communication of the country.
“The Pakistan railroads are a cheap, fast and environmentally friendly transport source,” said Shehbaz, and added that linking Reko Diq with railroads would increase the mines and the mineral sector of Baluchistan and create new employment opportunities for the people of the area.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Ahad Chema, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Minister of State of Bilal Railways Kayani, special assistant of the Prime Minister Tariq Fatmi and others.
