- Two 2014 sticks and a 2016 model are no longer compatible
- The newest models are not currently discounted
- The 4K Max would be our replacement choice
A few weeks ago we reported that Netflix would stop supporting some oldest firefighters television devices since June 2025, and that will enter into force today, on June 3.
Netflix has not come into details about why it is a final support for the devices, but the usual explanations are that they are too old to handle the latest safety updates, as well as the most modern audio and video transmission services such as Netflix prefer: the affected fire television devices are from 2014 and 2016, which is an eternity in the technological years.
These private television canes have not been updated in years, so it has always been a case of when They would become obsolete instead of whether they would.
If you are going to get another Amazon device to replace yours and you don’t mind doing it without Netflix for a while, you would recommend continuing for a while: Amazon discounts your Fire TV devices all the time, but today you are not doing it today. It will surprise me a lot if it does not rule out at least one model in time for Father’s Day.
What fire television bars have stopped supporting Netflix?
As of June 3, 2025, the first generation versions of the following models will no longer compatible with Netflix:
- Fire TV (2014)
- Fire TV Stick (2014)
- Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016)
And to be fair, Netflix has supported these devices for a long time.
If you are looking for a new Fire TV stick, the model you would recommend is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The non-Max version has an official price of $ 49.99 / £ 59.99 / AU $ 79, while the maximum is $ 59.99 / £ 69.99 / AU $ 119, and for not much more money the maximum gives it more storage, a faster processor and a better Wi-Fi connectivity too.
The Max has been discarded several times this year so far, carrying the price of the USA at $ 39.99 and taking it for less than 50 in the United Kingdom. So, if you do not mind making a pause in the observation of your Netflix for a while, it is probably worth waiting for the next Amazon Fire TV Stick offer.
