- GL.inet’s Comet is a piece of open source remote KVM hardware
- Remote access over Ethernet gives you access to a terminal from afar
- Unlike software-based solutions, this one is BIOS compatible and can be used for operating system installations.
GL.iNet has introduced Comet (GL-RM1), an open source remote KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) device that runs a Linux distribution based on the Buildroot open source project.
Designed for users who require remote access to PCs and servers, Comet connects via HDMI and USB for KVM functionality, while its Ethernet port integrates with your network for remote access.
GL.iNet’s Comet product page currently only offers a mailing list subscription, but it’s notable that the company describes it as, without power issues, a fail-safe alternative to remote desktop software.
Remote control to a new level.
With Comet’s BIOS/UEFI level support, users can perform tasks such as operating system installations and troubleshooting without requiring the target system to be operational.
It is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU and a TOPS 2.0 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that supports lightweight AI applications.
One of Comet’s key features is its built-in permanent free VPN service, which provides secure remote access. GL.iNet also equips the Comet with multiple remote start options, including Wake-on-LAN (WOL), a mechanical push button, and an ATX control board.
