Report and video evidence collected on Punjab Assembly incident during KP CM’s visit

An inquiry report, backed by video evidence, was prepared after a ruckus in the Punjab Assembly during the visit of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

The inquiry committee, formed by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, sent the report to IG Punjab, recommending legal action against those involved and seeking assistance from authorities for further investigation.

According to the report, the guest list provided by the opposition included only names, making identification difficult. He revealed that Matiullah Barqi tried to enter the assembly by falsely claiming to be MPA Ashfaq of PK-89. Provincial Minister Meena Khan confirmed that Barqi was not the AMP.

When asked to leave, Barqi allegedly scuffled with security and used abusive language. The report also noted that the opposition’s assurances to provide two PTI members at the main gate for identification were not met.

The guest list lacked identification numbers, photographs and vehicle details, leading to further complications. Statements from security officials, along with video evidence, were included in the report, which also noted the inclusion of a convicted individual, Haider Majeed.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi accused the Punjab government of deliberately obstructing PTI activities during his visit to Lahore, describing the treatment of party workers and leaders as “undemocratic” and “fascist in full display”.

He claimed that police harassed his convoy at several places, including Chakri and Bhera, prevented his supporters from joining and restricted entry to the Punjab Assembly, where clashes broke out between his security team and assembly staff.

Afridi warned that such actions risked inflaming inter-provincial tensions, while insisting that he had nonetheless been warmly welcomed by the people of Punjab.

Earlier, he said he is determined to follow PTI founder Imran Khan’s instructions “to the letter” and will continue to prepare for an anti-government street movement.

“My leader has tasked me with managing the administrative affairs of my province and at the same time preparing a street movement. God willing, I will follow these instructions to the letter,” he said.

Afridi, who will visit Karachi next week, said Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah invited him for a meeting “in accordance with democratic values and respect for office.”

“I thanked him [Shah] and he said that during the visit I would meet with the people of my province, and if they had any difficulties or problems there, I would certainly meet with them to find a solution,” he added.
