- Citroen Boss says that the future plan is to be “daring and shocking”
- As a result, the 2CV is ready to return as a modern EV
- Looking back is the new looking forward
After the steps of Renault 5 revived and his older brother Madcap R5 Turbo 3e, Citroen is the last brand that states that it is to rebuild more in its history.
Speaking to Autocar, the executive director of Citroen, Thierry Koskas, said the company would be based on “one of the richest stories in the world” among car manufacturers and that the 2CV was one of the most widely recognized cars it had produced.
Without confirming a release date, Koskas states that in the future, Citroen needs more iconic models than “will surprise.”
Earlier this year, Ambar also revealed that the design work had already begun in the retro-fouturist 2CV. At the same time, the head of the Citroen brand said that we can expect a new concept carrier later this year, but it will not necessarily be a preview of what we can expect from an electric can snail, as the 2CV was affectionately known.
Old School is the new car design school
It is no accident that several European car manufacturers deepen history books for the inspiration of EV.
Currently, the threat of cheaper and technologically made Chinese competition is causing concern that buyers feel tempted to opt for the best value options as the cost of living continues to increase.
“But buyers still want a good design,” Renault’s chief of design, Laurens Van de Acker, told me in the recent launch of Dacia Bigster. “Design and heritage or have a story to tell,” he added.
Nor is it coincidence that the same European manufacturers restart vehicles that were once considered as practical and affordable with the power to bring to the entire nations in difficult times.
The Renault 5, for example, was born during the oil crisis of the 1970s, when people were crying for a set of cheap and efficient wheels to use daily.
Similarly, the 2CV was designed to move away the farmers of the horses, transport eggs on rough terrain and, in general, act as the best vehicle to do everything. Possibly the first SUV in the world.
With the combustion motor cars eliminated in many countries, customers are crying for equally affordable and practical options in the EV space.
