Before a fight at Cherry Blossom Open in Maryland during the weekend, Turner, 31, decided not to compete against Trans athlete Redmond Sullivan.
It was a movement that Riley Gaines supported, calling Turner a “heroine.”

“Isn’t it surprising how you can simply explain this? On the other side you like to say that this is complex, it is a complex problem. Stephanie Turner is a heroin in my eyes,” Gaines told “America’s Newsroom.”
“This was in an Olympic classification event of Junior women. Therefore, it is a big problem. These are not thickets. This is the pinnacle of their sport at this time. I congratulate it for taking this measure. It is not easy to make, ultimately, deciding to boycott. But it is the most effective way to say that enough is enough.”
Gaines, who swam four years at the University of Kentucky, even against Lia Thomas de Penn, then shot at the NCAA.
“The NCAA has continued to deceive the American people, and have deceived President Trump in this … The NCAA is repeatedly rewarding the replacement of women to defend the sport of men and women, which is exactly why I and another 19 plaintiffs demand the NCAA.

“When they use the word inclusion, what they really mean is exclusion. And the people who exclude are women.”
Turner made his decision to lose the night before the event when he reviewed the pools of the competition and saw that he would face Sullivan, whom he had read in an article last year.
“He knew what he had to do because the Fencing of the United States had not been listening to women’s objections regarding [its gender eligibility policy]”Turner said.” I surrounded myself immediately at that point. Redmond had the impression that he was going to start wielding. So, when I surrounded me, I looked at the referee and said: ‘I’m sorry, I can’t do this. I am a woman, and this is a man. And this is a female tournament. And I will not validate this individual. ‘”
Minutes later, the referees issued Turner a black card, the most severe penalty of sport, which led to their expulsion from the tournament.
