Rawalpindi:
The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mott Macdonald Pakistan (PVT) LTD to design a modern plan to use the use of the land and a strategy of development of runners for the Rawalpindi Road (RRR) project, where 70 percent of the construction has already been completed.
In line with the instructions of Noorul Amin Mengal, Secretary of Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering, the Mou seeks to establish a comprehensive framework for the use of the land and the development of runners along the Ring of Ring.
A meeting to formalize the agreement was held at the headquarters of the GDR under the presidency of the Additional Director Mansoor Ahmed Khan.
The chief planner of the RDA, Muhammad Tahir Mew, director Land Ghazar Ali Awan, Construction Control Director Samiullah Niazi, MP Director and Te Atif Mehmood Chaudhry, senior RDA officials and representatives of Mott Macdonald Pakistan attended the meeting.
The MOU was signed by the chief planner of the RDA and the representatives of MMP, marking a significant step towards the planned and sustainable urban growth of Rawalpindi.
The project covers a stretch of 8.38 kilometers from the Ring Road with a 500 -meter wide belt, which represents the first model of modern urban development of Pakistan based on an economic corridor concept.
The strategy is intended to transform the corridor into a center of residential, commercial and institutional activity, while facilitating the chronic traffic congestion of Rawalpindi.
It will incorporate a contemporary urban design, avant -garde infrastructure and better public services. By adopting international best practices, the initiative is expected to strengthen connectivity, generate economic opportunities and substantially improve the quality of life of local residents.
The general director of the RDA, Kinza Murtaza, praised the initiative as a historical milestone that will remode the urban landscape of the city. He pointed out that the project would not only provide world -class facilities, but also contained urban expansion, ensuring that Rawalpindi becomes more habitable and sustainable for future generations.
The DG RDA also emphasized that the association between RDA and Mott Macdonald Pakistan represents a proactive movement towards integrated urban planning and development, positioning Rawalpindi as a model for cities throughout the country.
It is worth noting that the RRR is considered a “lost link” in the city’s road infrastructure. With the increase in traffic congestion on the GT Road routes and the city center, the road is considered the only viable alternative to divert heavy traffic.
The road is also expected to contribute to economic development through the proposed economic zones and help reduce environmental pollution. In addition, it will significantly reduce traffic accidents and guarantee a smoother and more uninterrupted traffic flow.
The project provides for the development of logistics and education centers, a city of health, Puerto Seco, business centers, industrial areas, transport terminals, wholesale markets, recreational parks and residential communities along both sides of the corridor.
