Ripple’s CTO shares key information about XRP and BTC by U.TODAY

U.TODAY – In a recent discussion about XRP’s circulating supply, CTO David Schwartz establishes parallels with the currencies attributed to its mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. His comments highlighted the complexity of defining what constitutes the “circulating offer” in the cryptographic panorama.

An X user had drawn attention to the disparity in the Current XRP supply reported by the Coinmarketcap cryptocurrency classification platform and the popular XRPPSCan explorer.

Coinmarketcap reports that the current circulating supply of XRP is 57.64 billion XRP, while, according to a screenshot shared by the XRPSCan user, XRPScan reported 62.23 billion XRP.

When addressing this speculation, Schwartz explained: “The way in which the circulating supply is measured depends on what is considered to be circulating and what is not considered to be circulating.” He continued: “To make an analogy with Bitcoin, are Satoshi bitcoins?

The analogy made by the CTO of Ripple is particularly relevant since it is believed that Satoshi Nakamoto has more than 1 million BTC, which have remained intact since the first days of Bitcoin. While these coins technically exist in the block chain, many in the cryptographic community believe that they are essentially out of circulation due to their inactivity.

According to Coinmarketcap, Bitcoin’s total and circulating supply is currently 19.81 million BTC, with a maximum supply of 21 million BTC.

Ripple XRP holdings are divided into two categories: XRP that is currently available in its wallets and XRP subject to deposit blockages in guarantee in the main book that will be published monthly for the next 42 months.

For this last category, Ripple does not have access to this XRP until the guarantee deposit is delivered monthly. Each month, the remaining XRP released is returned to the warranty deposit account.
