- Rode announces firmware update for Wireless Go (Gen 3) and Wireless Pro
- Add a direct connect feature
- The update is available for free starting today.
If you own a Rode Wireless Go (Gen 3) or Wireless Pro microphone and have been enviously eyeing the Wireless Micro’s list of newer, cheaper features, here’s some good news: The company just released an update that brings one of the Micro’s most convenient features to the Go and Pro, and it won’t cost you a dime.
The free firmware update allows the Wireless Go (Gen 3) and Wireless Pro to use Direct Connect, meaning their transmitters can pair directly with Apple iPhones and iPads via Bluetooth. That means users running the Rode Capture iOS app can now record what Rode describes as “broadcast-quality audio” on their Apple mobile devices without the need to use a receiver or cable.
It’s a brilliant feature for anyone looking to run an optimized recording setup, and one that Rode Wireless Micro users have had access to since its launch in 2024.
When using Direct Connect and the Capture app, audio can be delivered in combined or split mode. The former uses two transmitters to create and output a single stereo track, while the latter creates a separate track for each transmitter, giving the user more adjustment possibilities in post-production. Of course, users can also deploy a single transmitter and record a single mono track.
Without cables? No problem
“We’ve already seen the incredible impact Direct Connect has had on creators using Wireless Micro,” said Rode CEO Damien Wilson. “Since launch, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, allowing creators more flexibility and versatility than ever before. It’s our duty as pioneers of the ultra-compact wireless microphone category to extend true wireless freedom to as many creators as possible. With Direct Connect now available on more Rode systems, we’re delivering exactly that.”
With this update, and with the Wireless Go (Gen 3) and Wireless Pro dropping in price recently (to $199/£179.99 and $299/£269.99 respectively), there has perhaps never been a better time to pick up one of Rode’s premium wireless microphones.
