As one can understand, the NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, was excited to discuss the tragic mass shooting at the League headquarters in New York City that left four dead on Monday night.
Goodell made an appearance in NBC before the game of the NFL Hall of Fame, which starts the 2025 season in Canton, Ohio. Talking to Mike Tyrico, Goodell condemned the act of “meaningless” violence that also left an “seriously injured” NFL employee.
“There are no excuses for these meaningless acts,” said Goodell. “We are difficult to understand for everyone. He inflicts pain to the people you know and the people who care and the people you treat daily. That is particularly difficult.

“But, as you know, these acts of violence and meaningless hate are happening in our country and the world too often: in schools, in the churches, in the synagogues, in places that this should not be happening. We all have to remain attentive and continue protecting ourselves and the NFL will continue to do so with our employees and our peoples.”
Goodell began to drown specifically when talking about the “support effusion”, from government officials, to teams and coaches, have been giving the League at this difficult time.
But Goodell claimed to point out that this not only affected the League, it is much more than that.

“Remember that this attack is much more than several people. This is an attack on our humanity, this is an attack on our community, this is an attack against New York, this is an attack on our way of life,” he said. “We all have to do more and make sure we are doing everything to get help for people who need help. And also, taking the necessary precautions. I assure you that our employees are going to work hard.”
Goodell was among those who attended the funeral of the New York Diadarul Islam police officer, who died after Shane Tamura, 27, unleashed a flood of bullets in the lobby in 345 Park Avenue. Tamura finally took his life on the 33rd floor of the building.
“Someone we see outside the building almost every day,” said Goodell while containing their emotions. “It takes home the loss, unnecessary and inexplicable loss. It is something that all of us, like New Yorkers, feel great pride in the New York Police and everything they do and all the first to respond. It was a difficult and emotional afternoon. But also a tremendous moving service for him.”
As for the NFL employee who was injured in the shooting, Goodell said he visited him for about an hour on Thursday. He is improving in the hospital and surrounded by those he loves.

“An incredible young man, so we are optimistic for his recovery and I think they are good news for all of us in the NFL and obviously our hearts continue to support his family,” said Goodell. “He has a young family and [I] I had the opportunity to meet their brother, the parents and I think it is something really difficult to understand for all of us who face. “
The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, revealed in Fox 5 NY “Good Day New York” that Tamura was pointing to the NFL when he presented himself to the Office building of the center of Manhattan, which also served as a workplace for other companies, including the investment firm Blackstone and Rudin Management.
According to the reports, Tamura had a complaint with the NFL, referring to the sport of football that gave it chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is a lateral effect of repeated blows on the head. Adams said Tamura took the wrong elevator bank inside the building after attacking those in the lobby.
Goodell was in contact with all the employees of the league from Monday night, where he revealed that a staff member was injured in the shooting. He sent another memorandum saying that all workers in New York City should be remote at least until next week.
It is a difficult time for many, including all of the NFL, but Goodell knows that sports can sometimes serve as cure.

“We believe that the NFL brings together people, and we will continue that,” he said. “They will be raised by our own efforts to take the National Soccer League to our fans. It is something that I think our employees are proud, and that is why these people are there tonight starting that process of making sure that people can enjoy the National Soccer League. We are going to put our employees as our main approach, but we believe that we can also join our country in our game.
“We are going to continue. Maybe with broken hearts, but we will continue.”
