- Roku has added a new Subscriptions section to its home screen
- Bring all your subscribed services together in one place.
- Not everyone is happy with the change that has been implemented.
Roku users, the design of your home screen interface is changing again: you should now notice a new Subscriptions view available on your Roku device’s home screen, keeping you up to date with content from the various services you’re signed up for.
As Cord Cutters News discovered, this new section shows the shows you’ve most recently watched through your subscribed streaming services. There are also slots for new and popular movies and shows from these services.
In theory, this should make it easier to track content on platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Paramount+ or Peacock, as long as you’ve signed up through the Roku interface rather than directly on the relevant apps and sites.
It also works automatically: Roku will do the work of determining which subscriptions you have active and what you’re currently watching through those subscriptions. It should make it easier to manage your viewing on multiple platforms.
‘The last thing I want’
Finally, a new feature I can use! from r/Roku
Reaction to the change has been somewhat mixed, according to a Reddit thread. While several users appreciate the innovation and increased convenience it could bring, others ask how the feature could be disabled.
“The last thing I want to do is open an app right on the last cheesy thing my wife saw,” says one Roku user, but the new Subscriptions option can be hidden, like everything else in the home screen menu, via Settings > What to watch.
Other users don’t notice much difference between the Subscriptions tab and the existing Continue Watching and What to Watch sections. It looks like your mileage may vary depending on how many services you subscribe to through your Roku.
Being able to subscribe to the best streaming services across other devices and platforms is quite common these days, and it may be more convenient to have everything in one place, but keep in mind that you could miss out on the best prices and package options.
