Ron Washington of Season Angels with a Health Problem at 73 years

Los Angeles Angels announced that manager Ron Washington will remain with a medical license for the rest of the 2025 season with an un specified medical problem.

Washington, 73, has been set aside during the last week after he experienced the lack of breath at the end of the Los Angein series against the New York Yankees who ended on June 19.

After that series, Washington flew back to southern California and was put on a medical license after he underwent a series of tests. Washington is currently the oldest manager of MLB.

“We are starting to see the personality of the team take the personality of (Ron Washington),” said the general manager of Los Angels, Perry Minasian, in a statement. “There is some resistance, there is some hardness, and that is exactly what Ron is.

“(The players) will come out and play as hard as they play for Ron, day after day.”

The Los Angels banking coach Ray Montgomery, who filled for Washington when he was initially put on a medical license, was appointed interim manager.

Washington was hired by the Angels before the 2024 season, and is 103-140 in 243 games with the team. He was the Texas Rangers manager during eight seasons (2007-2014) and had a 664-611 record with them.

He led the Rangers to consecutive appearances in the World Series in 2010 and 2011 before renouncing abruptly in September 2014.

The Angels are 40-41 in the season, and have a 7-4 record with Montgomery to the helm.

This is the first time of Montgomery as MLB manager in his career as a coach. He joined the Angels as his director of players personnel for the 2020 season and became the team’s bank coach in 2021.

The Angels lost 15-9 against Washington’s nationals on Friday and seek to recover when they play nationals in the second game of their three-game series at 9:38 pm et on Saturday.
