‘RS20B is not enough’: the mayor shakes the Federal Karachi Plan

Karachi:

The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, criticized the federal government for announcing RS20 billion for Karachi, qualifying it as a “lollipop” compared to the real need of the city of RS200 billion, saying that those found in Islamabad cannot solve Karachi’s problems. He made the comments while talking to the media after inaugurating the Imam Mehdi Park and Sports Ground in New Rizvia Society.

This city requires constant work at the local level, “he said, adding that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will spend RS28 billion in development this year, while another 10 billion have been assigned for projects at the city level.

The mayor said that the 5.5 Acres site, once a garbage dump, has transformed into a modern recreational installation with a walking track, football and terrain of Cricket, reflectors and other comforts. “Where there was garbage, today there is vegetation. Green spaces are an ongoing charity organization, and this park is a gift for citizens,” he added.

Wahab said that large -scale projects are being carried out throughout the city under the vision of the president of PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, including BRT at University Road, sewage and drainage updates, and the completion of high steps and underground steps.

Rejecting the criticism of the opposition, said the mayor: “Our press conferences are not based on accusations but on performance. We have delivered without crying due to lack of powers.” He promised to continue fulfilling the promises to make Karachi “a development and prosperity center.”
