Russell Westbrook unloaded on members of the media following the Sacramento Kings’ loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night, marking the team’s 50th loss in a season that has left them with the worst record in the NBA.
Westbrook had 19 points and 10 assists for the Kings in a 133-123 loss that handed Sacramento its ninth straight home loss. Before his postgame press conference, it was clear that the NBA veteran was hoping to answer questions about the team’s dismal 14-50 record.

But it was Westbrook who asked most of the questions, turning the press toward the media whom he accused of stirring up “a bunch of things that aren’t accurate.”

“I got a lot of responses and they’re always talking,” Westbrook said after being asked how the team would handle the final 19 games of the season. “You guys have a lot of opinions on how we do what we do.”
Westbrook called random members of the media and picked one by asking them, “You guys make a lot of statements, and broad statements that have no context, so where do you get the context? Are you in practice? Are you in our filming session? Are you somewhere around the building?”
The journalist responded to Westbrook’s questions, but when he said he did know Westbrook, the NBA player’s tirade continued.

“No, you don’t know me. You don’t know me, you don’t know me. But you make a lot of comments like you do know me.”
“You guys are calm today, but you have a lot of comments during the games, after the game, what are we doing, what should we do, how should we do it. I’m confused,” he continued.
Members of the media responded, calling their coverage “fair.” Another reporter, when called, said it was “the worst season I’ve ever seen,” but didn’t blame Westbrook for the Kings’ problems.
“Your guys’ job is to talk about the game, what’s happening in the game, not to wave a bunch of things around — I don’t want to say bad words because I don’t want to get fined — but to wave a bunch of things that aren’t accurate and that’s my problem,” he said, raising issues with recent coverage of the Kings’ season.

“As the leader of this team, my job is to defend the guys in the locker room,” he added. “My request is that you respect what we do and we respect what you do.”
Westbrook answered one more question about the game before the press conference concluded.
With the Kings out of the playoff picture, they will return to the court on Sunday when they host the Chicago Bulls.
