New York giants were disappointing once again at the inauguration of a new NFL season, begging the fan’s question: How long does the Russell Wilson belt last as a field marshal?
It is long enough for another week, at least, as the chief coach Brian Daboll said on Monday after the defeat by 21-6 against the Washington commanders on the path that Wilson will practice this week as the head of the team before his game against the Dallas Cowboys.
“Russ will be the headline,” he said when journalists asked him at the team’s facilities in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Daboll was asked immediately after the game if Wilson is still his boy advancing, and left him open for the interpretation after not being definitive. The giants returned to the first round to catch Jaxson Dart, his hopeful field Marshal of the future. After a strong preseason, Dart is waiting for his first regular season opportunity.
“It is an emotional game. It is a difficult game. He did not play particularly well, I would say collectively. But in terms of making any of those decisions, really in any schematic position or change, I would like to do it with a clear head and see the tape,” Daboll said. “Once again, as I said yesterday, that game does not fall at Russell Wilson. We have to do a better job collectively, Coaching, play, but Russ will be the headline.”

The debut of the regular season of the Wilson giants was not according to the plan. It had only 17 of 37 for 168 yards with a 45.9% completion rate in the loss. But as Daboll mentioned, all the loss was not in Wilson.

The field marshal has been the boxing sack for giant fans during the last seasons. Daniel Jones, who had a phenomenal debut with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, was expelled mid -season in 2024 due to low performance. But once again, the offensive line of the giants proved to be an important problem that contributes to poor production.
Wilson was pressured by 22 of his 45 setbacks, a rate of almost 50%, which is not going to do the work on game day. Due to the amount of pressure, Wilson was not going through his readings and had to get the ball quickly, which resulted in lost releases and minimal earnings.
The giants also extended a horrible streak, since they did not get a touchdown in their third consecutive season opening, the first time from the Detroit Lions of 1940-42. They have combined for 12 total points in their last three seasonal openings.

But Daboll, who is certainly in the hot seat that enters this season with the owner John Mara who wants to see better results in the column of victories and losses, will stay with the veteran signal call instead of going with the rookie who goes to another division confrontation against the cowboys, which are also 0-1 after falling to the eagles of Philadelphia Eagles in “Thursday Night Football “.
