“The creation of this registry will allow the precise identification of consumers who use electricity for mining,” said Konyushenko, adding that the measure is part of an effort to legalize the sector and stop the consumption of electricity without a license.

The initiative occurs after last year, Russia made cryptographic mining legal in the country. According to the law, companies and businessmen must register with the tax authorities to operate mining facilities.

Private citizens can extract without registering, but only if they remain within the limits of the Government for the use of electricity. Regardless of size, all miners must inform how much digital currency produce to the tax service.

The measure is part of the widest hug of Russia in the cryptographic sector. Last week, the state conglomerate Rostc, known for its role in the country’s military-industrial complex, revealed plans to launch a ruble card called Rubx.
