- The Federal Court of the United States presentation recently suffered a cyber attack
- Initial reports claim that Russia is at least partially guilty
- The attack directed sealing files
Supposedly, Russia has been linked to a recently disturbing cyber attack against the Federal Court of the United States.
Reports of the New York Times (NYT), who said he spoke with people familiar with the matter, states that there is evidence that Russia is at least partially responsible for the attack, which has been an “years” effort to violate the system.
The reports added the searches: “They included criminal cases of medium level in the area of New York City and several other jurisdictions, and some cases involve people with surnames from Russian Europe and this.”
Sealed files
The administrative office of the United States courts recently confirmed a cyber attack against the system on August 7. However, Political He informed that the system had been attacked by an unknown threat actor since the beginning of July.
In addition, in all the United States, the main judges of the District Courts were told to transfer the cases with abroad ties of the regular document management system.
An internal memorandum, seen by NYT and issued to officials of the Department of Justice, employees and main judges in federal courts by the administrators of the judicial system declared that “the persistent and sophisticated cyber threat actors have recently compromised sealed records”, continuing: “This remains an urgent issue that requires an immediate action.”
The Federal Court presentation system, such as many archive systems, is an expanding network that is used and continuously updated with new records, and was based on a system developed for the first time in 1996.
As a result, the system is considered to have several serious vulnerabilities, with the system previously violated in 2020.
Currently there is still no known reason for the attack, but it is possible that if Russian intelligence services are involved, they could be gathering intelligence on the potential commitment of assets in the United States.
The same has been theorized about the violations of telecommunications that arrived in the United States in 2024, which were attributed to China. In these attacks, threat actors violated a back door used by the police to search for telephone listeners ordered by the Court.
