Salman Akram Raja, the lawyer who represents Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), founding president Imran Khan, faced the personnel of the Adiala prison on Monday after he was denied access to meet his client.
The incident occurred when Raja tried to meet Khan, who is currently imprisoned in the installation, said Express News.
According to Raja, prison staff initially rejected their application without providing a clear reason, which led to confrontation.
Azam Khan Swati, Nadia Khattak, Tabish Farooq, Mubashir Awan and Ansar Kiyani were allowed to meet Imran. However, Salman Akram Raja, Shoaib Shaheen and Niazullah Niazi were blocked from entering, which led Raja to question the decision.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the selective approval of visitors with prison staff at door 5.
Raja questioned why certain names of his list were denied, while others allowed themselves, stating: “We provided a list with the names, but only access to Azam Swati was granted. Why didn’t others allow them?”
According to the reports, the jailer responded by explaining that the personnel were processing those first names and would address the remaining requests later.
Raja argued that this did not agree with the Court’s instructions, which had specified that certain lawyers, including himself, should receive access.
The confrontation continued while Raja insisted that if his team was not allowed to meet with Khan, none of the visitors should receive entrance. Raja emphasized the importance of adhering to judicial orders, warning that not doing it would bother Khan.
The prison administration later confirmed that the meetings with Khan had been restricted for security reasons, but did not explain the specific conditions.
