Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and former CEO of the deceased Crypto Exchange FTX, could be released from the prison in December 2044, more than four years before his original sentence required, according to Business Insider.
Condemned in 2023 for seven fraud and conspiracy positions, Bankman-Fried received a 25-year sentence in March 2024 for orchestrating a fraud of $ 11 billion.
The prosecutors showed that he channeled FTX’s clients’ funds to Alameda’s investigation, their cryptographic coverage fund, using money to underpin investments, make political donations and enrich themselves and close associates.
After his sentence, Bankman-Fried was transferred to a federal low security prison in San Pedro, California, after a period at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.
While he was there, he lived in the same unit as “Diddy” Combs and gave a surprise interview with Tucker Carlson.
According to the Federal Prison Office, its sentence has been reduced thanks to the “good conduct weather” “that allows inmates to win up to 54 days off per year, and participation in unpredied penitentiary programs, said Business Insider. The time dedicated to bars before the sentence is also taken into account.
Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda and a key witness in the case of the Government, was sentenced to two years, but now it is projected to be published in May 2026 after similar reductions.
