- Samsung Reportedly Testing 20,000 mAh Phone Battery
- The increase in capacity comes courtesy of a silicon-carbon composite.
- Unlikely to be ready in time for the Galaxy S26 series
Battery capacity is one of the key specifications that most of us look for when purchasing one of the best smartphones, and Samsung is rumored to be working on a substantial update in this department, although it won’t arrive in time for its upcoming flagship phones.
According to tipsters @phonefuturist and @SPYGO19726 (via Wccftech), Samsung is testing a dual-cell silicon-carbon battery that goes up to 20,000 mAh. That’s four times the capacity of the 5000 mAh battery inside the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
As you can guess from the name, silicon-carbon batteries differ from conventional lithium-ion batteries found in today’s phones in the choice of materials. A silicon-carbon composite anode allows for much higher capacities, without increasing the volume too much.
We’ve heard rumors about this silicon-carbon technology before, including in a leak earlier this year suggested that next-generation batteries could be ready in time for the Galaxy S26 series, although that now seems unlikely to happen.
Soon
Some additional details on the size of the dual stacked cell Cell 1 (primary): Capacity: 12000 mAh Thickness: 6.3 mm Dimensions: 10 cm × 6.8 cm Cell 2 (secondary/competitive stack): Capacity: 8000 mAh Thickness: 4 mm Dimensions: 10 cm × 6.8 cm The 8000 MaH increased from 4 mm to 7.2 mm. https://t.co/xVRA4Th3HkDecember 25, 2025
While the 20,000 mAh battery now being tested certainly sounds promising, it’s unclear exactly when it will be ready for mass production. According to this leak, there are still bloating issues that need to be addressed.
Samsung knows what it’s like for battery technology to go wrong and it won’t want to repeat those mistakes again. Both Samsung and its competitors will wait until the silicon-carbon update is fully ready before launching it.
With that in mind, don’t expect many updates for the Galaxy S26 phones due in February. According to recent leaks, we may see a small increase in battery capacity up to 5200 mAh for the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra model, for example.
However, it’s encouraging to know that big increases in battery capacity are coming, and within a year or two we could have the privilege of using phones that last two or three days between charges.
