- Another New One UI 8.5 Feature Spotted
- It’s called Prioritize Notifications and it works as you would expect.
- A beta program could start in November
The best Samsung phones are in line to receive a big Samsung One UI 8.5 software update in the coming months, and the latest leaked feature of the update should make it easier to manage the stack of notifications that appear every day.
As noted by SammyGuru, a leaked build of One UI 8.5 has shown off a new feature called Prioritize Notifications, which does exactly what you’d expect given the name: it applies a higher status to some of your incoming alerts.
“Notifications that may be important will appear on top of other notifications to make sure you don’t miss them,” reads the feature’s blurb. “You can choose whether to prioritize notifications for each app in the app’s notification settings.”
There’s no further indication of how all this might work in practice, but it seems useful – improvements to notification handling are always welcome. The feature description also mentions that the necessary content processing is done locally, so nothing is sent to the cloud.
Coming soon
We expect to see One UI 8.5 release sometime after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S26 phones, but a beta test could begin next month. Of course, there’s no guarantee that the Prioritize Notifications feature will make it to the final version of the software; will change and evolve before its full release.
There have been rumors of delays with Samsung’s next series of flagship phones due in 2026, but it is unclear if this will affect One UI 8.5, which may fully roll out around January or February, before One UI 9.0 in mid-2026.
We’ve already seen a leaked hands-on video of Samsung One UI 8.5, which also revealed that the software update could introduce a double-tap gesture that works on the back of the phone, much like iOS.
With other leaks showing a variety of design changes and camera tweaks, One UI 8.5 will be a relatively major update. Of course, we’ll let you know as soon as Samsung makes something official.
