- There have been rumors of a Galaxy AI subscription
- Samsung has just confirmed that many features will remain free
- But it is not clear how Galaxy AI can evolve in the future
Samsung has certainly not been shy by putting AI’s characteristics in its phones and other devices in recent years, and there has been some uncertainty about whether these characteristics could cost money, but now we have a little more clarity.
In statements to the Android Police in the Upecking event of Galaxy this week, a Samsung representative said that the characteristics of Galaxy AI that are “on their default phone” will always be available for free.
That includes live translation, notes assistance, Zoom Nightgraphy, Writing Assist, Drawing Assist, now brief and the audio draft. There is a complete list here for everything you get, in terms of AI, when you buy a new Samsung phone or tablet.
What is not clear immediately is what characteristics of AI might not be covered: at this time, there are no Galaxy Ai accessories that are not included in devices, although perhaps we could see some introduced into the future.
The Gemini model
Of course, there is a freeemium model for Gemini’s assistant that now appears on most Android devices, including Samsung phones and tablets. Paying for Google Ai Pro or Google ai Ultra gives you more functions and access to better AI models.
Google AI Pro begins at $ 19.99 / £ 18.99 / AU $ 32.99 and includes extras such as 2TB of Google Cloud Storage, but often gets a few months free. If you buy one of the Google Pixel 9 phones, get a year of full use before you start paying.
The newly announced Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 come with six months free, and clearly Google hopes that at the time that free period has finished, you will not be able to live without all the goodness of the which receives with a subscription.
Samsung has abandoned suggestions about the introduction of a Samsung Health subscription package, giving additional features due to a monthly rate, so it is possible that some additional AI tools are included in that, although we will have to wait and see.
