- Samsung is adding 9 -inch screens to its refrigerators from side to side and four doors
- Fridges can identify ingredients about to expire and suggest recipes
- Some also have double refrigeration to Ia to maintain consistent temperatures
Samsung has launched a new range of smart refrigerators designed to help reduce food waste in two ways: keep it colder with a system that provides additional cooling when necessary, and an AI system that can identify foods that are about to expire and suggest recipes to use them.
The new fridges debuted in CES 2025, and I could see one in action for the first time in Samsung’s exhibition hall in London Kx earlier this week. Technology is impressive, and not only for the show, it is also practical.
Other intelligent features include doors that can be opened with a wave of your hand or a voice command through an integrated Bixby Speaker (ideal when you have full hands and need to put something big on a shelf).
A center in your fridge
The new set of refrigerators looks a new 9 -inch screen, much smaller than screens in most smart refrigerators. The screen is placed at the eye level, and although compact, it means that it does not need an additional screen disordering its kitchen. It makes a lot of sense; The devices at the kitchen counter are a recipe for disaster when the flour and sauces are involved.
The smallest screen can do almost anything that one of the best smart screens can, including the execution of applications, play music and videos, show recipes and use any intelligent starting device that is compatible with Samsung’s smartthings platform (take a look at our summary of the best intelligent start devices for some options).
You will find the 9 -inch screen in certain four -door refrigerators and sideways, while others will have an updated 35 -inch screen.
Anyone who chooses will obtain an improved food identification, which can monitor the elements while putting them in the refrigerator and extract from a large catalog of recipes to help you use what you already have. The system can even detect foods that are about to expire and suggest ways to use them.
In the demonstration of Kx Showroom, I could see how you can use Bixby to search for ingredients and kitchen recipes. For example, you can use voice commands to search for Chinese recipes with tomatoes, and the refrigerator will show instructions to follow.
Some of Samsung models also have a hybrid system that adapts to fly to increase cooling when necessary and use less energy at other times. The compressor at the bottom of the refrigerator is complemented with a PELTIER module (a thermoelectric heat pump) at the top, which is activated every time additional cooling is needed (such as when it has had the door open for a while to load its weekly grocery).
Together, you should help your food to last longer and facilitate the use of everything before it is broken, provided that your budget can endure it. Prices begin at £ 2,199 (around $ 2,800 / AU $ 4,500).
