The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Savy King defender underwent cardiac surgery after his terrifying collapse during a game for Angel City on Friday night, the team said.
King was urgently taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering a medical problem while playing against the Roys of the Utah. The doctors discovered an abnormality in her heart, and she underwent surgery on Tuesday.

“On behalf of our whole family, together with SAPY, we were moved by the love and support of the players, staff, fans and the Angel City community, as well as football fans throughout the country,” said the King’s family in a statement. “We are lucky to share that Savy is recovering well and we are eager to have it at home with us soon.”
Angel City said that King was resting and that his “prognosis is excellent.”
The incident occurred in the 74th minute of the party. The medical staff attended King for about 10 minutes before he stretched out of the field and on a cart.
The NWSL said it would review the policies to see if changes should be made when dealing with medical emergencies.

The rules declared that the League “acknowledges that emergencies may arise that make the beginning or progression of a game are not inadvisable or dangerous for participants and spectators. Certain categories of events automatically trigger the League office in an evaluation of whether the delay or postponement is necessary.”
The officials put 12 minutes of detention time on the clock and played until the end of the game. Angel City won 2-0.
Bay FC selected King with selection No. 2 of North Carolina in the 2024 NWSL draft. It appeared in 18 games for the club before being changed to Angel City in the low season.
