Satya Nadella has said that AI should be measured for its benefit for GDP, instead of “self -denominating an AGI milestone,” said Microsoft’s CEO in the Dwarkesh Patel podcast patel earlier this month.
“That is just a piracy of meaningless reference,” he continued, stating that AI had not yet found the application that would realize the years of advertising.
“When we say: ‘Oh, this is like the industrial revolution’, let’s have that type of growth of the industrial revolution. That means 10 percent, seven percent for the developed world. Inflation was adjusted, growing to five percent, that is the real marker, ”said Nadella.
Increase GDP, improve “knowledge work”
Nadella used Microsoft Excel as a comparison of how AI has not yet found its appropriate place in the modern workplace, with physical documents and faxes that deliver an arduous task that would present a prognosis “perhaps only in time for the next quarter.”
“Then someone said: ‘Hey, I will take an Excel spreadsheet, put it in an email, send it, people will go to edit it and have a prognosis.’ The entire commercial prognosis process changed because the work artifact and the workflow changed. That is what should happen with the AI introduced into the knowledge work,” Nadella said.
But Microsoft’s CEO does not believe that AI replaces knowledge work, but free more time for knowledge workers to concentrate on tasks of greater value, asking “who said that the objective of my life is to classify my email?”
Many workers already live for fear of being replaced as companies see AI as a tool to reduce costs and increase profits. Fortunately for us, the main obstacles to prevent agi models, or with cognitive abilities that exceed the human brain, to replace human workers are legal problems.
“Today, you can’t deploy these intelligences at least and until there is someone who compensates you as a human,” Nadella said.
