The clarification followed the publications and reports of the social networks widely circulated with a false notification that stated that any monetary note with feather or handwriting brands would no longer be considered legal after July 1, 2025.

At the beginning of September 2014, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had advised the public, to refrain from writing political slogans about foreign exchange tickets, warning that banks would not accept such notes.

The announcement had arrived in response to the call of the leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (Pat), Tahirul Qadri, to citizens who circulate currency with the slogan “Go Nawaz Go”.

The SBP had declared that disfiguring the currency is illegal and declared that anyone who suffers a financial loss due to marked notes will be solely responsible.

The SBP had also issued directives to banks to closely monitor political slogans in currency bills and told them not to accept it if such a statement was found.

Noor Ahmed, however, has reiterated that currency tickets are a national asset and must be protected.
