SC Judge urges the government to grant industry status to mining

Islamabad:

The judge of the Supreme Court, Jamal Khan Commandkhail, has urged the government to recognize mining as a formal industry, highlighting the hard conditions already deplorable that workers face, particularly miners in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.

He made the comments while approaching a high -level national conference under the topic “Workers and employers in 2025: sailing for change with harmony.”

Delivering the opening speech as the main guest, Judge Commandkhail emphasized that in the eyes of the law and Islam, employers and workers are the same, and the Supreme Court is the definitive tutor of their rights.

He expressed a deep concern about the absence of institutional safeguards for mining workers and requested legal and administrative reforms to guarantee their protection and well -being.

“A judge must follow the law, but justice is not limited to the courts. Each individual is responsible for guaranteeing justice in their actions,” he said.

Citing article 17 of the Constitution, he pointed out that the right to association is a fundamental right and added that labor unions must work to protect legal rights while promoting harmony. “Cordial relationships and mutual consultation between employees and employers can help reduce the growing accumulation of cases related to work in court,” he observed.

Judge Jawad Hassan, from the Superior Court of Lahore, praised the legistan legislative framework for labor rights, saying that the country has a long -standing tradition of progressive labor laws, beginning with the Ordinance of Industrial Relations of 1969.

In his opening comments, Justice (RETD) Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, president of NIRC, said that the main mandate of the commission is to keep the national industry moving forward while safeguarding the interests of workers.

The famous jurist Barrimer, Dr. Zafarullah Khan, cited the Sacred Koran by stating that the mission of the prophets was to establish justice.
