SC rejects the supplication against mobile towers around Khi airport

Karachi:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an appeal against the installation of mobile towers around the Karachi airport, saying that aviation and other interested authorities said that these towers were built in accordance with international aviation standards.

A bank of three members, comprised of Judge Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Judge Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Judge Aqeel Abbasi heard the appeal. According to the observations of the responsible parties, the bank said there was no danger to the planes that took off from the airport.

The defender of the petitioner Muhammad Aslam Khan had argued that some time ago, a plane of the international airlines of Pakistan (PIA) had crashed into a residential area, in which around 100 people died. The court said in comments that the accident on the flight PK-8303 was not due to the population.

During the hearing, Judge Mazhar commented that the house that was hit by the plane was not so high. He said that the planes fly daily and that the aviation authorities had no problem, so why someone else had the problem with that.

Judge Abbasi commented that the entire population around the airport could not be evacuated. Judge Rizvi said in his comments that if an accident had occurred in the future, the responsibility would fall on the authorities that currently say that the towers did not raise any problem for the planes.
