SCBA, newspapers call the revocation of peca settings

Islamabad:

An advisory meeting held under the auspices of the Association of Lawyers of the Supreme Court (SCBA) demanded on Monday the cancellation of the recent amendments made to the Cybercrime Law of the country: the Law of Electronic Crime Prevention (PECA), 2016 .

The meeting entitled “Media under threat: the challenges faced by the post-peca media (amendment) of the law, 2025” was organized in the central office of SCBA.

Chaired by the president of SCBA, ROUF ATTA, the session attended members of the Bar Association, as well as journalists and media staff. The meeting then approved unanimous resolutions that emphasize freedom of expression and denounced the recent amendments to Peca.

“This advisory meeting condemns and disapproves of the PCA law (amendment), 2025, being defective legislation, considering a violation of article 19 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of expression and expression.

“This advisory meeting argues that the Peca Law (amendment), 2025, violates the rights of the media personnel as protected by article 19 of the ICCPR, adopted by the United Nations and those that Pakistan is a signatory,” said a statement issued after the meeting.
