Section 144 imposed in twin cities amid PTI protests outside Adiala jail, IHC

CM Afridi has ordered all members of the provincial assembly to immediately reach Islamabad for the protest scheduled for tomorrow.

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration and the Rawalpindi district administration have imposed Section 144 in all cities in the wake of the PTI protest announced tomorrow in front of Adiala Jail and Islamabad High Court.

A spokesperson for the ICT administration confirmed the application of Section 144, which restricts all forms of public gatherings, demonstrations and rallies. “No individual or group will be allowed to organize protests or hold public events under these restrictions,” the spokesperson said.

The measures are already in force and apply to all areas of Islamabad. The authorities have made it clear that they will take immediate action against anyone who attempts to organize or participate in activities that fall outside the legal framework, including unauthorized events.

Additionally, the administration issued a public notice urging residents to refrain from participating in any activities that violate the imposed restrictions. The notice stated that the ban is aimed at preventing disruptions in daily life and maintaining public order. He warned that violations would lead to immediate legal action.

Officials have called for the public’s cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of Section 144, emphasizing that peace and order is a collective responsibility. The ICT administration reiterated that the restrictions would remain in place until further notice.

Meanwhile, the district administration imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi for three days, starting December 1 (today) to December 3, in response to growing concerns over PTI protests near Adiala Jail.

The decision was taken on Monday during a key meeting of the District Intelligence Committee, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema.

The notification issued by DC Cheema restricts all forms of gatherings, rallies and processions in Rawalpindi district during the implementation period. The administration has stepped up security measures in the area, with police and other law enforcement agencies on high alert.

“Article 144 will remain in force from December 1 to 3 and prohibits public meetings, rallies or processions,” the official notification said. “The police and relevant authorities will work in coordination to ensure peace and security,” Cheema added.

CM KP members to travel to Islamabad

In a move to show solidarity with the ongoing protests, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has ordered all members of the provincial assembly to travel to Islamabad immediately.

Sources said the directive was issued after a meeting of the provincial cabinet. “All members of the assembly must arrive in Islamabad tonight,” Afridi said, confirming that lawmakers would actively participate in a protest planned for tomorrow.

Following the announcement, the members of the provincial assembly began their journey to Islamabad after the session. The protest is scheduled to take place in front of the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail, where it is expected to gather significant support.
