Seeks to improve security and commercial cooperation with Afghanistan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs


Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO), Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said on Thursday that Pakistan maintains active communication with the Afghan authorities and aims to enhance cooperation with Afghanistan in security, trade and other areas.

In a press conference, the spokesperson highlighted that 2024 had been a dynamic year for Pakistan’s diplomacy, with the country building strong relations with several key nations including Belarus, China, Azerbaijan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and the United Kingdom .

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also visited Belgium, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and other countries, while the Prime Minister and President of Pakistan also made several international visits this year.

The spokesperson noted that delegations from Malaysia, Russia, Saudi Arabia and other countries visited Pakistan in 2024.

Despite various changes and challenges both regionally and globally, Pakistan had successfully maintained positive relations with multiple countries, focusing on mutual interests.

Regarding Pakistan’s engagement with the United States, the spokesperson emphasized that diplomatic relations with the United States remain strong. Furthermore, Pakistan continues to collaborate with its European partners.

The European Union recently lifted a ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and Pakistan is also in talks with other countries to remove similar restrictions on PIA flights.

The spokesperson also addressed relations with Iran, stating that the year began with military clashes between the two nations, but noted that both countries had made efforts to engage diplomatically in April.

While there have been border issues with Afghanistan, Pakistan remains in contact with Afghan authorities, seeking to improve cooperation in security, trade and other areas.
