Senate condemns the honor of Baluchistan

Islamabad:

On Thursday, the Senate unanimously approved a resolution, condemning the public and illegal execution of a couple in broad daylight in Baluchistan, supposedly by order of a call Jirga on behalf of “Honor.”

The Resolution, Moved By Senator Sherry Rehman on Her Own Behalf and on Behalf of Senators Mohammad Abdul Qadir, Jan Muhammad, Mohsin Aziz, Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Kamil Ali Agha, Raja Nasir Abbas, Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, Irfan-Ul-Haque Siddiqui, Quratulain Marri, and Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari was adopted by the house during his session on July 24.

The resolution condemned the atrocious and premeditated act as an abhorrent crime and a serious violation of human rights, the Constitution and the laws of Pakistan. He declared that such barbarian murders should not be justified under cultural or tribal practices and emphasized that the concept of “honor” cannot cancel constitutional protections.

He stressed that despite existing legal safeguards, implementation in the field remains weak, which leads to the subversion of justice, particularly in cases aimed at women.

The Chamber decided that such called honor murders constitute murders and must be processed under relevant laws without obligation. He asked the Government to guarantee immediate and transparent investigation into recent murders and bring everyone involved, including those who summoned or sanctioned any jirga, justice without delay.
