- RuptureThe creator has debunked a wild fan theory ahead of season 2’s debut.
- Dan Erickson humorously called the particular hypothesis “ridiculous.”
- He also suggested that the successful Apple TV Original won’t answer all the questions fans have.
It’s been three years since RuptureThe first season ended, so fans had plenty of time to come up with some outlandish theories about the hit Apple TV Original.
However, of the seemingly endless number of online fan theories that have emerged, there is only one that creator Dan Erickson has hilariously called “ridiculous.” In fact, talk to me before Rupture In the Season 2 debut this Friday (Jan. 17), Erickson debunked a wild hypothesis from a fan who, surprisingly, actually has ties to the man himself.
When asked for some examples of the strangest comments or theories he’d seen or heard, the Apple TV Plus show’s head writer responded: “Well, I’ve heard people say that they think I based Rick on [played by Michael Chernus] about myself, which I find ridiculous! Hey, just because I’m a well-dressed writer doesn’t mean I’m on my own show.”
For those who need a reminder: Rick (full name Ricken Hale) is Devon’s husband, aka Mark Scout’s sister, and a published self-help author. His in-universe book, ‘The You You Are, A Spiritual Biography of You’, becomes a manifesto of sorts for Lumon Industries’ Macrodafa Refinement team, of which Mark’s ‘innie’ is a part, who β spoilers! ! β eventually and openly rebel against the underground biotech megacorporation in the Season 1 finale. However, despite what some fans believe, Erickson did not serve as an inspiration to Rick, so that’s one conspiracy theory we can kill off! from the list!
“Part of the fun is letting people speculate and come up with their own interpretation”
One of the fan bases for the best Apple TV Plus shows has come up with some absolutely fascinating theories since the mystery thriller initially premiered in February 2022. And, as viewers continued to analyze one of the most anticipated shows of 2025 on The three-year gap between season 1 and its upcoming sequel, the theory factory has been in overdrive ever since. Rupture The first trailer for season 2 was released in October 2024. Things escalated further with the release of Rupture The official Season 2 trailer also came two months later, as fans reviewed every second of the footage to try to determine what will happen in the show’s second outing.
However, if you’re expecting season 2 and future installments to confirm or disprove all the theories fans have made up, you’ll want to check your expectations. Responding to my question about how Erickson strikes a balance between expanding or unraveling certain mysteries and leaving others open to the public’s interpretation, he said: “It’s funny because, when I was a kid and doing my homework, I always made sure to show all my work so so that my teacher knew that I had done everything correctly.
“Now, because we put so much care into working out all of these things in detail and answering every question [that fans have]My impulse is to bring that work to the screen. I want to tell the public everything. Ben often [Still, director/executive producer] He has to be there to put a hand on my shoulder and say ‘it’s okay to leave some things unsaid.’
“Part of the fun is letting people speculate and come up with their own interpretation, or they can find their own way to what we were saying and meet us in the middle,” he added. “So I learned a lot about moderation from Ben and we still have conversations about what questions we want to answer. We haven’t figured everything out, but we’re getting there.”
