The Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA) has issued a heat wave alert for Punjab from May 15 to 19, while the province prepares for an intense warm climate spell.
According to PDMA, temperatures are expected to increase significantly, potentially exceeding normal levels in 4 to 7 degrees Celsius, which represents serious health risks for the public.
The Pakistan’s department of Meteorology informs that continental winds are dominating most of the country’s parts, resulting in warm and dry weather conditions.
On Wednesday, high temperatures are expected to persist through the plains, with southern Punjab experiencing the most severe heat. It is forecast that the main cities such as Lahore, Finen, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad will register temperatures between 41 ° C and 42 ° C.
The PDMA warned that these predominant conditions can intensify the heat wave, particularly impacting urban and lowland regions.
The alert also states that the extreme heat is likely to continue in large part of Punjab until May 20.
However, a western weather system is expected to enter the province for the night of May 19, potentially with temporary relief in the form of lower temperatures and isolated rains.
The general director of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has ordered all the commissioners, commissioners and district administrations to remain on a maximum alert and guarantee emergency preparation.
The relevant departments, including school education, health, transport, local government and rescue 1122, have also received instructions to implement immediate caution measures to safeguard the public.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, wear light and baggy clothes, cover their heads when they are outdoors and remain well hydrated. The authorities have also been addressed to guarantee the availability of clean drinking water in public places and equip hospitals and mobile health units to provide appropriate first aid in heat -related emergencies.
