Senator Faisal Vawda has expressed his frustration for foreign nations telling Pakistan how to handle his affairs, calling him “shameful” that strangers instruct the country on how to solve their problems.
During a meeting of the Senate Finance Committee, chaired by Senator Salem Mandviwala, finance ministry officials provided information on electricity subsidies. The Ministry proposed to limit the subsidies of electricity to the beneficiaries of Bisp, with continuous efforts of the Ministry of Finance, the Division of Energy and the related companies to implement this policy.
Senator Faisal Vawda, in his comments, condemned foreign criticism, qualifying it “extremely shameful” that foreign diplomats told Pakistan how to solve their problems. He also added that Pakistan is losing $ 2.2 million daily due to these problems. Vawda requested the end of the “drama” in the committee and demanded that those responsible for creating these policies were responsible.
Senator Anusha Rahman commented that there should be no electricity subsidies, stating that such policies would make the entire country beg, not only affecting poor women but also men. She suggested that those who can pay the electricity bills should pay them, and requested the resolution of the pending quotas of RS 33 billion related to the electricity subsidies for the industries in Karachi.
The officials of the Ministry of Finance responded, stating that the matter is currently in the Court, and K-Electric obtained an order of suspension of the Judiciary.
Senator Farooq H. Naik expressed his belief that anyone really cares for Pakistan, citing the comments of the Iranian diplomat as “shocking” and “shameful” for the nation. He also mentioned that these statements were revealed for Pakistan and that they should be taken seriously.
The committee also discussed the issuance of 600 trucks blocked on the border of Pakistan-Iran, with the Iranian diplomat explaining that Pakistan had imposed a bank guarantee requirement, which had led to a daily loss of $ 2.2 million. The diplomat explained that due to this, the number of Iranian trucks that crossed the border had decreased significantly, from 600 to 400. These trucks have been trapped at the border for six months.
The Iranian diplomat emphasized the importance of free movement between Pakistan and Iran, in line with bilateral agreements, and encouraged Pakistan to concentrate on developing the port of Gwadar.
Senator Salem Mandviwala pointed out that the trade exchanged between Pakistan and Iran had stopped due to the complex customs regulations and the imposition of the bank guarantee requirement.
Customs officials confirmed that there is no bank guarantee requirement for exchanged trade, but for bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran, the condition is in their place. They also clarified that third -party assets cannot enter Pakistan through exchanged trade.
Previously, Senator Faisal Vawda said that presenter Arshad Sharif was killed and that many “big people” will face trial if their case opens.
