Shangla: A senior police officer of the Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa escaped an improvised explosive attack (FDI) remotely controlled on Saturday.

According to police sources, the district police officer (DPO) Shangla Shah Hassan and other police personnel remained safe in the explosion. However, a private vehicle belonging to a special branch suffered damage.

After the attack, the law personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to stop those responsible.

Last year, on March 26, at least six people, including five Chinese citizens, were killed after their vehicle was attacked in the city of Besham in Shangla.

The country witnessed a strong increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, increasing by 42% compared to the previous month, according to the data published by the Institute of Conflicts and Security Studies of Pakistan (PETS), a group of experts.

The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were recorded throughout the country, which resulted in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals suffered wounds, including 53 security forces, 54 civilians and 10 militants.

KP remained the worst affected province, followed by Baluchistan. In the established districts of KP, the militants carried out 27 attacks, which resulted in 19 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians and two militants.

The tribal districts of KP (former Fata) witnessed 19 attacks, which led to 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians and 25 militants.
