- 951 Decision and Technical Users on their Habits Survey Surveys Surveys
- Almost half of VPS users have left a supplier due to bad support
- The activity time guarantees and full administrator control are key features
A new Web Liquid study, one of our selections for the best web accommodation suppliers, has discovered a growing trend for companies to favor virtual private servers (VPS).
The study found that 27% of users who are not VPS plan to migrate to a virtual private server in the next 12 months, and those who use shared accommodation are more likely to migrate.
Of those who already use private servers, 90% say they would recommend this type of accommodation mainly due to access to the root. The users of the cloud platform seem to be mainly motivated by the costs to make the change, those who use dedicated accommodation are not happy with the performance of their server, and shared accommodation users are frustrated with the restrictions on the configuration options.
Virtual private servers are now more accessible than ever
The study also revealed what private servers are using. Almost half use VPS servers for accommodation of websites and applications, while 15% are using servers to implement or adjust AI models.
Other uses include game accommodation (such as Minecraft accommodation), automation scripts, customer projects and the execution of electronic commerce stores.
VPS servers have traditionally been the server option for more technical users, but the results show that fans use them more and more.
It is more likely that IT professionals and developers use a VPS (50% of respondents) with 58% of accommodation sites or applications, 45% using servers for devotee tests and 31% reports to use VPS for automation scripts.
A growing percentage are fans (19% of respondents) with 58% using games for games, 42% for housing of sites and applications, and 18% housing discord bots.
The growing trend for the use of VPS could be due to the large number of tutorials on the web. 65% of respondents said they learned using online tutorials and proof and error. Only 31% had formal training. That does not mean that help is not appreciated since almost half of VPS users have left a supplier because the necessary support is not received.
Windows was the most preferred operating system for 36% of users, with Ubuntu collecting 28% of users and Centos for 9% of respondents.
The growth of VPS is not too surprising considering that servers offer better reliability and configurability as shared accommodation and not have the same general costs of dedicated accommodation and clouds, while maintaining the same performance and scalability.
“The future of the accommodation is to deliver the affordability of Shared, the dedicated control and the scalability of the cloud. VPS is the bridge, and the leaders who invest now will be better positioned for growth,” said Ryan Macdonald, director of Web Liquid Technology.
