The franchise released a statement on X as the Pittsburgh Penguins cruised to a 3-0 win against the Sharks.
“During the first intermission of tonight’s game, an offensively worded message that had been sent externally inadvertently appeared on the stadium scoreboard,” the team said. “Sharks Sports & Entertainment deeply regrets that this message, which does not meet the values of our organization, was not detected during our standard review process.
“The Sharks organization sincerely apologizes for this oversight and we are actively working to determine the origin of the message.”

ICE enforcement in California has been a major topic of conversation in recent months. In Los Angeles County, the board of supervisors voted to declare a local state of emergency in response to the agency’s operations in the region.
County officials stated that the raids have “created a climate of fear, leading to widespread disruption to daily life and adverse effects on our regional economy,” including lower workplace attendance, temporary or permanent business closures, and increased strain on schools, hospitals and places of worship.

San José council members also approved a policy to require ICE agents to unmask during enforcement operations. The council approved the new mandate unanimously.
