- The next partner of AI de Sharp, Poketomo is a palm -southern -shaped robot with a bright belly
- Poketomo is designed to provide emotional support, especially for women aged 20 and 30.
- It combines a nice design with AI and conversational synchronizations with an application for smartphones to maintain a continuous relationship.
The Japanese consumer technology brand Sharp believes that it has a solution to loneliness between women aged 20 and 30: a summer with a engine called Poketomo, who shines when he is happy and retakes your favorite coffee.
Poketomo will arrive this winter (think in November or December), providing a pocket partner for less than five inches tall and built to talk with you about your day, and remember your shared experiences thanks to Sharp’s patented model.
The belly shines in pastel tones when it is excited or comforted. His head leans slightly when he thinks. It has a set of basic body movements, all designed to transmit emotion. However, Poketomo’s heart is found in the AI model integrated into the Robot for fast responses and uses the cloud for a more nuanced emotional understanding.
This is not the first time that a technology company has created an assistant to the CURSI and not threatening designed to fill the social space without being intrusive. But Poketomo could be the most deliberate and totally made version of that strategy. Do not interact with him through a screen or keyboard. You carry it as an accessory. You talk like a friend. Listen, learn and remember you. It is designed to be emotionally available and physically adorable.

Attend
Sharp leans strongly in the concept of “empathic”. Poketom may supposedly feel emotional signs and use that to start conversations based on your mood or recent behavior. He is scheduled to offer words of breath and support, and then shines gently to let him know that he is happy that you have shared something.
When you do not have the physical device in you, the Poketome application synchronizes memories and personality data with the device, so that conversations with one lead to the other. Sharp says that he can build his relationship completely with the application if he prefers, but the physical version is better, and that is what Sharp is betting on people, they will pose and form a link.
Ai company
Despite looking like a children’s toy, Sharp says that Poketomo was designed for young adult women. There is a promotional manga series cementing that fact. He focuses on a woman named Nanami at age 20, living alone, sailing for the work and stress of life, and finding small moments of joy in conversations with his poketomo. Even promotional photos mainly show a young woman with a poketome trimmed to an elegant bag, smiling while talking with her.
The question is whether this type of emotional heat stylized will really make people feel better with their lives. Will they feel less alone due to a small robot with some sophisticated response triggers?
To be fair, it is not a human being, cheating people unconsciously so that they believe they are talking to a real human, but could bother. And if the best new idea in the consumer’s AI is “do it confusing and let it ask how your day was”, what does that say about the limits of technology? I do not believe that Poketomo is the cure for loneliness, but could promote a digital pet trend capable of imitating with emotional depth.
