Karachi:
The Sindh Superior Court (SHC) has suspended the decision of the University of Karachi (KU) to cancel the degree of Judge Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC).
A division bank led by Judge Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro issued this order on Friday while listening to the request of Judge Jahangiri against the order of last week.
On August 31, 2024, the union of the University of Karachi annulled this degree of “invalid” Jahangiri justice about the recommendations of the unjust committee of the University (UFM).
The SHC on September 5, 2024 suspended the university’s decision.
However, the University Registrar on September 25, 2025 issued a “statement”, stating that Tariq Mahmood, son of Qazi Muhammad Akram, had been declared guilty of using unfair means at the end of the 80s.
“[He] He was eliminated for three years to admit at any university/university and appear in any university degree exam under the circular disqualification NO 88 of 1989 and was never a student of Islamia Law College Karachi.
“In compliance with the union meeting held on August 31, 2024, Vide Resolution No. 06, the results of LLB and the degree of Tariq Mehmood Bearing Seat No 22857; registration No AIL-7124/87 are withdrawn and canceled. This is being issued with the approval of the vice chancellor,” he added.
At Friday’s hearing, the General Defender of Sindh Jawad Dero, the KU registrar, Prof Dr. Imran Siddiqui, and other officials appeared before the bank. The registrar said the University had received the Court notice only two days ago. He requested time to send an answer.
The lawyer of Judge Jahangiri, lawyer Salahuddin, said that respondents could receive time to present their response, but the cancellation order must be suspended.
Judge Kalhoro commented whether the KU cancellation order is revoked later, who will compensate for the damage caused to the judge. “This implies the reputation of a lifetime of a man. Did the affected party issue a notice before the cancellation of his title?” asked.
The registrar replied that he was freshly published and was not aware. Judge Kalhoro said that if the official appeared before the Court, he must give an answer.
“It may be that the action has been taken of personal interest. Its title is questioned after 30-35 years. If such request is entertained after decades, the affected individual must receive a hearing.
“We are not saying that measures cannot be taken, the law allows it, but how can we put someone’s honor? Even ex -part trials are not considered good judgments,” he added.
Later, the Court suspended the decision of the University of Cancel the title of Jahangiri and prohibited more actions on the union recommendations and the unfair media committee. The bank will resume the audience on October 24.
On September 30, the Supreme Court put aside a provisional order of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) that Judge Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri had restricted to carry out judicial work. A bank of the IHC Division led by the president of the Supreme Court Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz to tell September 16 Judge Jahangiri to perform his duties as he began by the procedures in a court order that arrested a place to which he arrested a place to which he stopped him.
