Shehbaz Sharif meets Iranian president out of Eco Summit


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, apart from the 17th Summit of the Organization of Economic Cooperation (ECO) held in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the ongoing bilateral cooperation in all sectors and expressed their satisfaction with the progress taken in the decisions taken during their previous meeting aimed at further strengthening the relations of Pakistan-Iran.

The two leaders also discussed the regional situation evolving in the light of Israel’s unjustified aggression against Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated the leadership of President Pezeshkian and praised Iran’s decision to exercise restriction and pursue a stop the fire during the recent crisis.

Reiterating the unwavering solidarity of Pakistan with the people and the Government of Iran, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to work together with Iran through dialogue and diplomacy for peace in the region.

President Pezeshkian appreciated the strong diplomatic support of Pakistan to Iran in international forums during the recent crisis and thanked Pakistan for his key role in decalcalance efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also transmitted a message of congratulations and the best wishes for Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

17th Eco Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Azerbaiyan on Thursday for an official two -day visit to participate in the 17th Eco Summit.

The summit was held in Khankendi from July 3 to 4, under the theme “New Ecological Vision for a resistant and climate resilient future”, which brings together the heads of state and the government of the member countries to discuss pressing regional issues, including connectivity, trade and climate change.

The prime minister was accompanied by the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, the Federal Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, and special assistant of Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

Upon arrival at Fuzuli International Airport, the prime minister was received by the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, Adil Karimli, Azerbaijan ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov, Pakistan ambassador to Azerbaija Qasim Moinuddin and other diplomatic and government officials of the highs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had declared that the prime minister would address the summit that describes Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and global issues. It was expected that Pakistan’s commitment to the Eco Vision 2025 and advocate for the deepest intra -regional trade, improved transport connectivity, greater energy cooperation and sustainable development.
