Former Interior Minister and senior politician Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was prevented from leaving the country despite Lahore High Court orders allowing him to perform Umrah. Rashid, who was traveling to Saudi Arabia via Dubai, was detained by immigration officials at Islamabad International Airport.

In a video message recorded at the airport, he said he would return to court, adding that all relevant authorities had received copies of the court’s orders to ensure there was no obstruction.

He said: “When the order of the high court is not respected in a country, then only Allah can help us. Insha’Allah, Allah will allow me to perform Umrah and those who stopped me will repent of their decision.”

Meanwhile, an FIA immigration official, who requested anonymity, said the FIA does not independently add or remove names from the exclusion list. “Sheikh Rashid’s name was still in the system and he was informed accordingly,” the officer said.
