Sher Afzal Marwat, a senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, said on Friday that it would have been better for the party to have received a written agreement rather than requesting an additional week of consultations.
Speaking on the Express News program center stagesuggested that the PTI may not have been fully prepared until January 2 and emphasized that the one-week delay could come at a significant cost.
Marwat explained that the request for a week’s consultation could have been avoided if a written agreement had been provided in advance.
“If we had received a written proposal, it would have been more efficient,” he said, adding that by asking for an additional week, PTI could have caused unnecessary delays.
Reflecting on the situation, he noted that if any clarification was required, it should have been sought before January 2 from the founding members of the PTI.
While talking about the ongoing negotiations, he insisted that there was nothing wrong in submitting demands in writing, highlighting that even those within the PTI who have maintained firm positions have supported the negotiation process.
“We have shown flexibility by forming a negotiating team and sitting down to talk,” he said, stressing that this was a clear demonstration of the party’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue.
Marwat also acknowledged that statements from various stakeholders suggested the negotiating environment was improving.
“It seems that both sides are now mentally prepared to sit at the negotiating table and recognize that problems can be resolved through dialogue and not in the streets,” he commented.
He further reiterated PTI’s stance on the formation of a judicial commission, stating that it is in line with the party’s principled position and reflects the need for transparency and accountability in resolving ongoing political disputes.
