Shots outside Governor House in Baluchistan injures 3 students and 2 police officers

At least two police officers and three students were injured on Friday when the rifle of a police officer was accidentally downloaded outside the house of the governor of Baluchistan in the Zhob district, authorities said.

The students were shot in the arms and legs while police officers suffered minor injuries. All were transferred to the Hospital of the Headquarters of the Zhob district. Medical Superintendent Abdul Rehman said the students were in stable condition after undergoing surgery and that police officers were discharged shortly after receiving first aid.

The incident occurred around 12 pm, when the students had come to meet with the governor of Baluchistan, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Commandkhail, to discuss educational issues. The officer who held the rifle was in security service.

According to the Police, the shot was a consequence of the technical malfunction or the possible mismanagement of the weapon. According to the reports, the rifle shot while the students tried to enter the governor’s house after security controls.

Commandkhail visited students injured in the hospital and announced that the Government would support all medical expenses. He described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and promised to provide injured students with full educational and financial support.

In addition, he issued directives to improve the training of security personnel and regular weapons inspection.

Meanwhile, the students of the university leaders and the Boys Government Community grade organized a protest outside the governor’s house. This was canceled after Commandkhail issued a formal apology and announced compensation for the injured.

This is the second incident of this type that involves Zhob security personnel this year, which raises concerns about existing security protocols. The provincial government has announced a review of the security protocols in the governor’s house. More measures will be taken against the responsible officer after the completion of the investigation.
