The river levels throughout Sindh remained high on Saturday as the authorities maintained preparation measures for floods, and the Pakistan army completed the arrangements to support the civil administration in case of higher increases.
The provincial emergency monitoring cell of rain and flood reported high flows in key barriers. Guddu Barge registered a high flood, with an entry to 544,658 CUSECs and output at 514,051 CUSECs. Civil Administration and Army officers have inspected vulnerable areas in Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur and Guddu, where the strengthening of the embankment and other preventive works are underway. The medical camps administered by the Army are providing free treatment to residents and will remain active if floods occur.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon praised the efforts of the president of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the victims of the floods, calling for his leadership a “ray of hope.”
Memon said the PPP would not rest until complete rehabilitation, noting that agriculture was the most affected. He welcomed the federal announcement of environmental and agricultural emergencies, but criticized delays in a Benazir income support package promised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He added that Bilawal had traveled the districts affected in Punjab and Sindh and met with provincial leaders to plan the recovery of farmers, urging federal support for rapid action.
