The Sindh government has presented plans to rationalize all transport services in Karachi through the implementation of a unified regulatory framework, together with the introduction of an electric vehicle taxis network (EV).
The announcement was held during a high level meeting of the Transport Department of Sindh, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting also included key officials as a special assistant of the main minister Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, the Secretary of Transportation Asad Zaman and the Mass Traffic Authority of Sindh, MD Kamal Dayo.
Minister Memon stressed that the unified system would improve the quality of the service, would guarantee the safety of passengers and promote the transparency of rates throughout the city.
“We are working to carry all taxi services under a unique and efficient system that guarantees the transparency of rates and strict inspections of vehicles,” he said.
As part of its Green Transportation strategy, the Government of Sindh is also quickly tracking the launch of an EV taxi service to modernize the city’s taxi network and reduce environmental pollution.
Efforts are being made to make EV taxis more accessible through easy financing options, including presentation plans.
The government is also focusing on gender inclusion mobility by introducing a pink scooter program aimed at women. In the first phase, 1,000 pink scooters will be distributed for free to working women and students.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to the empowerment of women and their access to safe and reliable transport,” Memon said.
In addition, the Sindh government plans to eliminate the elimination of traditional buses in Karachi, relocate them to other districts and replace them with electric buses.
Two -story buses will arrive in June, and additional buses are expected at the beginning of July.
To support this transition, the government is working on the development of the infrastructure, including EV load stations and designated parking areas.
