KARACHI:
The Sindh Bar Council has demanded the immediate removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori by President Asif Ali Zardari, stating that political activities in the Governor House violate the Constitution.
During the 109th meeting of the Sindh Bar Council held on February 21, a resolution was passed against the governor, which decided that “the participation of the Governor of Sindh in political activities and the use of the Governor House for political activities violates the Constitution.”
The council demanded that the President immediately remove Tessori from office, with the resolution saying: “The House demands the immediate removal of Governor Sindh as he has proven himself unfit to represent the federation.”

Furthermore, he emphasized that constitutional positions must remain above politics and that the governor must remain impartial as a representative of the federation.
The statement added that no compromise will be accepted on the unity and integrity of Sindh, stating, “We also call on the PPPP to clearly state its partisan position regarding power-sharing agreements in the federal government with political parties that have espoused narratives related to the division of Sindh.”

While demanding guarantees of constitutional protection for the people of the province, the council said: “The people of Sindh deserve clarity and assurance that the unity of the province and its constitutional status will not be compromised under any political arrangement.”
The Sindh Bar Council also noted that even the absent members of the council had supported the resolution.
On February 20, Sindhi nationalist leaders accused Tessori of turning the Governor’s House into a platform for what they described as ethnic politics, following a recent event attended by leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
Ayaz Latif Palijo, leader of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek, alleged that the Governor House had been reduced to a “centre for hatching conspiracies against Sindh and Pakistan”. He claimed that any attempt to undermine Sindh amounted to a threat to the integrity of Pakistan.
A day later, Chief Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon condemned what he termed hate-filled and linguistically biased speeches delivered at a recent ceremony at the Governor House, describing the choice of words and ideas as deeply regrettable.

Sharjeel also criticized inappropriate references to state institutions during the event, saying such discussions are not suitable for a constitutional platform and undermine civic harmony.
He expressed concern over elected representatives using such platforms to convey biased messages, noting that the incident, particularly involving MQM members targeting each other, threatens Karachi’s culture of peace and brotherhood.
