Sindh extends ban on demonstrations and public gatherings for another month

The order says the move is aimed at maintaining public order and stopping gatherings that could threaten security across Sindh.

The Sindh government has extended Section 144 across the province for another month, continuing the ban on public gatherings, rallies, processions and protests.

According to a notification issued by the Department of Home Affairs, the ban, which was initially imposed on October 12, prohibits all forms of protests and gatherings of more than five people under section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The order stated that the measure had been taken to maintain public order and prevent groups from gathering in a manner considered detrimental to public safety in Sindh.

The notification was distributed to all commissioners, DIG, SSP, deputy commissioners and director general of Sindh Rangers, as well as chief secretary and principal secretaries to the chief minister and governor, directing them to ensure strict implementation.

The Home Department warned that violators will face legal action under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Law enforcement agencies have been ordered to take action against any individual or group attempting to hold demonstrations in violation of the order.

Officials said the extension was deemed necessary due to increased political activities and calls for protests across the province, adding that the move is aimed at preventing any deterioration in the law and order situation. The ban will remain in effect for one month.
