Sindh Govt identifies 51 more buildings for demolition in Lyari


The Government of Sindh has dismissed the general director of the Construction Control Authority of Sindh (SBCA) of the Coltía Sindh (SBCA) after 27 people died in a collapse of the building in the Lyari area of ​​Karachi. Another 51 buildings have been destined for demolition after the exam.

The collapse of a five -story building in Baghdadi on Friday resulted in the death of 11 women, 16 men and a girl of one and a half, while another 10 were injured. An injured individual remains under treatment.

The final body that recovered from under the rubble was that of Muhammad Zaid, 15, who had been caught for 48 hours.

Zaid’s father and two brothers also died in the collapse. Rescue operations, despite the challenging conditions, ended without further victims that are believed to be trapped.

The provincial government has promised RS1 million in compensation for agricultural families.

Dismissal and suspensions

At a press conference, Senior Senior Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, local government minister Saeed Ghani, and Sindh Interior Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar described the government’s response to disaster.

Ghani confirmed that the Karachi commissioner has been commissioned to provide detailed information on 51 buildings that are considered insecure within 24 hours, including the number of units and residents. This information is crucial to start the demolition process, he said.

“These 51 buildings in poor condition will be treated urgently,” Memon added. “Necessary measures will be taken to guarantee the safety of residents, and the demolition process will begin as soon as we have the required details.”

The Sindh Sindh Government, led by the Pakistan peoples party, has promised to take strict measures against those responsible for the collapse, and Ghani informed the media that SBCA personnel responsible for supervising Lyari has already been suspended.

In addition, the CEO of SBCA has been dismissed, he said, adding that a case will be presented against negligent officers, and those convicted will be with respect to legal procedures.

The Government has established a new committee, led by the Karachi commissioner, to investigate the status of other ruins buildings throughout the city. The Government has also promised RS1 million in compensation for the families of the victims.

“We will not tolerate any criminal negligence,” Lanjar said. “The Government is totally committed to responsible for those responsible.”

Memon emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthen laws around illegal construction, with a two -week deadline established for amendments to SBCA regulations.

Ruine buildings

The Sindh government has also announced plans to relocate the residents of insecure buildings and improve conditions in the 586 ruins of Karachi.

While rescue operations were ongoing, three buildings adjacent to the collapsed structure also suffered severe damage.

Two of the buildings suffered significant structural damage, while a recently built six -story building was evacuated as a precaution. Despite the evacuation, the operations continued as usual in the newly built building.

However, there have been concerns that the SBCA has not yet inspected the affected buildings, and no contact with the owners or residents of the two most vulnerable structures has been made.

The Sindh government spokesman Sukhdev HEMnani said that the provincial government remains firmly committed to supporting the victims of the Lyari building collapse, including members of the Hindu community.

“We will make sure that all victims receive the same assistance,” he said, added that a recovery plan for victims is currently being completed.

The provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize the needs of minorities and guarantee the safety of all residents, particularly in vulnerable communities such as Lyari.
